During a conference I attended for a Baby Art Studios I was invited to join a training session by Magdalena Sienicka. Sienicka is an award-winning boudoir and maternity photographer based in Northamptonshire who normally uses natural lighting for her photographs but for this training session she showed us studio lighting techniques. During the training session Sienicka hired two pregnant models where she would style and pose them and after the training, photographers were able to pose and take their own photographs. The images used for this blog are my own photographs.
Sienicka taught us money saving styling techniques that can still look classy and elegant on a budget. For example, Sienicka used a simple blue frilly scarf as a cover up that looks fashion magazine cover ready! Also, she finds fabrics and clothing from car boot sales which saves her a couple pounds rather than buying custom dresses.

Sienicka taught me the importance of shaping the mother’s body using posing techniques such as positioning the model’s hips to pop her bottom out and using the legs to create the body shape and therefore making the arms free to pose wherever because the legs and hips are doing all the work.

Overall, the training went so well, I learnt LOADS and I was inspired in my own photographs seeing how I might use her techniques to better my own photographs. Sienicka was hilarious, always cracking jokes and this made the models feel much more comfortable and made me think how I should communicate to my own clients.
