Photographers, I think we all know backdrops are often too expensive to have lots of variety for our studios. However, we need this variety for our photo galleries; so, what is the solution on a budget?
My current project, The Modern Renaissance, requires many floral designs and I’ll admit a few of them are photoshopped, shhhhhh! I do this by using a digital backdrop and this way I can create more variety in my work without spending ridiculous amounts. Yes, it takes a bit of work and skills in photoshop, but the end results are breath-taking.
To start, you’ll need to buy some digital backdrops: there are a few good ones on Etsy that are normally just a couple of pounds. Next, open your own photo that you want to change the backdrop of, and then layer the digital backdrop into photoshop. On the digital backdrop layer, create a mask layer which enables you to paint away the unwanted bits. By using a mask layer, if you make a mistake, you can correct it by changing the colour of your paint brush and painting back where you need to.
Top tip: Try changing the harshness of your paint brush, as this will give different styles of finish.
Once finished, don’t forget to flatten the image and save!
Hope this helps, any questions email me!!!
